Indications/Uses
Symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men w/ enlarged prostate to improve symptoms, reduce the risk of acute urinary retention & the need for BPH-related surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/open to avoid irritation of oropharyngeal mucosa.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dutasteride or other 5-α reductase inhibitors. Women of childbearing potential. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Special Precautions
May reduce serum prostate-specific antigen conc & increase the risk of high-grade prostate cancer development. Men should not donate blood until at least 6 mth following the last dose. Hepatic impairment. Risk to male fetus, should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who could become pregnant.
Adverse Reactions
Impotence, decreased libido, breast disorders (including breast enlargement & tenderness) & ejaculation disorders.
Drug Interactions
Potent, chronic CYP3A4 enzyme inhibitors eg, ritonavir.
